The Telecom Infra Project (TIP) is pleased to announce that Kaniz Mahdi, SVP Technology Architecture and Innovation at Deutsche Telekom has joined its Board of Directors.
Yago Tenorio, Chairman of TIP and Fellow and Network Architecture Director at Vodafone Group, commented on the appointment: “Kaniz brings a wealth of experience to our board and we are very pleased to have her play a role in shaping TIP’s progress. Her track record of pushing forward innovation speaks for itself, and will only strengthen the vision and ambitions of TIP to the benefit of our members. Deutsche Telekom has been a strong supporter of TIP across the board and technical committee, and Kaniz’s addition to the board will further enhance that relationship.

Biography: Kaniz Mahdi, SVP Technology Architecture & Innovation, Deutsche Telekom
Kaniz serves as Group Chief Architect and SVP Technology Architecture and Innovation (TAI) at Deutsche Telekom. Along with her esteemed colleagues at TAI, she is shaping Deutsche Telekom’s global technology architecture with true in-depth content and thought leadership in Telco, Cloud and IT industries, anticipating industry trends ahead of competition as well as for translating upcoming business challenges into clear technology strategy including tangible execution outputs and plans for technology and industry evolution. Kaniz also represents Deutsche Telekom at the Technological Advisory Council of the FCC and various multinational industry boards to foster technology collaboration and co-innovation across the world.
She previously served as VP Distributed Edge, a new technology focus area she helped establish in the VMware Office of the CTO. Kaniz served on the FCC Technological Advisory Council, as well as various other public and private industry boards, actively shaping emerging technologies with human centric approaches such as the Automating Life vision she pioneered for a sustainable path to 6G.
Kaniz is a proud co-founder of the Open Grid Alliance where she is passionately advancing the state of the edge with truly distributed intelligence constructs underpinning real world discovery and verification of these emerging technologies in partnership with industry and academia.
Prior to VMware, Kaniz held various technology leadership positions at Ericsson, Huawei, Ciena and Nortel.
With 45+ patent grants, Kaniz has a stellar record of continuously pushing the envelope on new technologies. She is an inventor of essential technologies underpinning current Voice over LTE systems and has been instrumental in defining the 5G era landscape with disruptive technologies (e.g. SDN/NFV & O-RAN).
