Telecom Infra Project (TIP)-Telkom University in partnership with its ecosystem partners: Telkomsel, NTT DOCOMO, PT INTI, Edgecore, PLN Icon Plus, and International Fiber Alliance (IFA) have announced a strategic collaboration with the Authority of New Capital City (OIKN) to support the future telecommunication infrastructure development of Indonesia by launching Open Network Technology showcase in New Capital City, Nusantara.

OIKN highlighting the collaborative spirit and technological innovation it brings to the infrastructure development of Nusantara. OIKN representative said “Collaboration with various parties, including the private sector and academics, is crucial for the success of the IKN project. Nusantara Authority has been a strong supporter of new innovation of technology and infrastructure that catalyzes collaboration across industries. With strong synergy, we can accelerate the development of digital infrastructure and create a dynamic innovation ecosystem.”

The Ministry of Communications and Informatics (MCI) is providing regulatory support for this initiative. Mulyadi, Director of Standardisation at MCI, said, “We are excited to witness the collaborative spirit and innovative efforts behind this Open RAN Proof of Concept, which aligns with our vision for a digital Indonesia. We hope this initiative not only demonstrates the technology but also accelerates the practical deployment and integration of Open RAN solutions. We believe that Open RAN can be a game-changer for our local industry, driving efficiencies, reducing costs for mobile operators, and fostering a more competitive and resilient network ecosystem.

The digital transformation of IKN is a collective effort that MCI deeply values. We are committed to providing the necessary support to ensure the success of the Open RAN Proof of Concept, enabling it to reach its full potential. By leveraging open network technology, we are not only constructing a robust infrastructure but also fostering an innovative and competitive digital ecosystem.”

As part of this ground-breaking collaboration, Telkomsel and NTT DOCOMO are contributing Open RAN 5G SA technology and solutions with several use cases, including high quality video streaming and smart glasses. PT Inti and Edgecore are providing OpenWiFitm Access Point devices with high local content (TKDN) and resources for technical tasks ranging from surveys to commissioning. The International Fiber Alliance (IFA) is providing Open Access solution to enable infrastructure sharing for the fixed broadband network in Nusantara. TIP-Telkom University become a facilitator and coordinator of the activity and also include the showcase of Virtual Reality (VR), Mixed Reality (MR) dan Artificial Intelligence (AI) through its Metaverse Research & Experience Center (MREC) Telkom University.

This collaboration aims to achieve significant advancements in 5G, Wi-Fi connectivity and infrastructure sharing solution for the new capital city.

Sadayuki Abeta, OREX Evangelist and Chief Open RAN Strategist of NTT DOCOMO and Chief Technology Officer of OREX SAI, said “NTT DOCOMO has been deploying a fully multi-vendor, inter-operable 5G Open RAN commercial network, nationwide in Japan since 2020. DOCOMO also created Open RAN ecosystem and experience(OREX) to accelerate Open RAN commercial deployment globally. Open RAN with OREX contributes sustainable growth of industrialization in Indonesia.”

Edi Witjara. Chief Executive Officer of PT INTI (Persero), said “PT INTI (Persero) are thrilled to collaborate on showcasing the transformative potential of Open Network Technology. By leveraging OpenWiFitm with our own product called INTI-AP102ax Access Point, we aim to demonstrate how these innovative solutions can revolutionize connectivity and drive digital transformation across various sectors, especially at New Capital City. This collaboration underscores our commitment to fostering an open, flexible, and interoperable network ecosystem that empowers businesses and communities alike”.

Ari Rahmat Indra Cahyadi as President Director of PLN Icon Plus said, “PLN Icon Plus is committed to providing reliable and high-quality telecommunications infrastructure in the Nusantara Capital City (IKN). High-speed broadband internet services from PLN Icon Plus are now active in the IKN area, particularly at the Construction Worker Housing (HPK) building. This achievement marks a significant step in supporting the critical connectivity needs of IKN. The service not only strengthens connectivity but also serves as an initial step towards realizing a smart and integrated digital ecosystem in IKN”

Randy Gosal, Sales Manager of Edgecore said “We are thrilled to be a part of this initiative, contributing our expertise to the Collaborative Ecosystem for the Implementation of IKN as a Smart City. By leveraging open Wi-Fi technology, we are committed to driving innovation and creating sustainable, intelligent urban solutions. Our open Wi-Fi solutions ensure seamless connectivity and accessibility, empowering communities and enhancing the quality of life. Together, we are shaping the future of smart cities.”

Mikael Sandberg, Chair of International Fiber Alliance, said “As a specialist in fiber infrastructure and Open Access networks, IFA is proud to contribute to the development of Indonesia’s New Capital City, Nusantara. Our Open Access solution is key to enabling seamless infrastructure sharing for fixed broadband connectivity, which is vital for the city’s digital transformation. We are committed not only to advancing Nusantara’s smart city initiatives but also to strengthening our collaboration with partners. Together, we are building a robust, future-ready digital ecosystem that fosters sustainable growth and innovation for Indonesia.”
