5G Private Networks
The goal of the 5G Private Network Solution Project Group is to make 5G private networks accessible to a broad range of use cases and customers by transforming deployment from a bespoke special project to a standard product with an appropriate cost structure.
The group will develop requirements for the automated lifecycle management of an on-premises and edge cloud native 5G Private Network solution based on a CI/CD toolset and open, disaggregated hardware components.
This solution group will develop a new approach to the implementation of 5G Private Networks, which will result in:
- Seamless integration of building blocks: 5G connectivity, Cloud Native Edge Computing and use cases
- Lower cost structure from the use of open & cloud native functions for 5G private networks maximizing the use of open source software
- More efficient and timely installation, maintenance and upgrade of software through CI/CD automated life-cycle management (LCM) of all the different units composing the architecture: CNP, tools, virtual network functions, cloud native telco functions
- Improved security model and better performance (higher bandwidth, lower latency) through the use of local user plane breakout
The group will develop requirements for the automated lifecycle management of an on-premises and edge cloud native 5G Private Network solution based on a CI/CD toolset and open, disaggregated hardware components.
David Martín Lambás, Senior Manager – Connectivity Innovation discusses how, through collaboration in the TIP 5G Private Networks solution group, Telefónica has shown a path to overcome today’s business and technical challenges in private network deployment by the combination of edge compute, disaggregation and deployment automation.
Dahyr Vergara, CTO of the Open Networks center of excellence at NTT Data, talks about how the complexity of private network deployment over many customers can be simplified through automation, with containerized or virtualized network functions and bare metal servers as a foundation, and the use of open source as a key component.
Alberto de los Ríos, Head of Telecom Practice LATAM, explains how participation in the TIP 5G Private Networks solution group aligns with NTT Data’s views on the importance of innovation and cooperation for the development of next generation 5G private networks, and how openness allows a wide range of ecosystem component providers and systems integrators with vertical market knowledge to work together to deliver the most appropriate solutions.
In this engineering discussion, David Martín Lambás, Senior Manager – Connectivity Innovation at Telefónica & Chair of TIP’s 5G Private Networks Solution Group and Sriram Subramanian, Global System Integrator Ecosystem Manager at Facebook & Technical Lead of TIP’s 5G Private Networks Solution Group, discuss how TIP’s diverse set of ecosystem partners provide an immersive end-to-end user experience for private network deployments.
