- Ihab Tarazi from Dell Technologies takes new board position
- Juan Carlos García becomes Telefónica’s representative on the Board of Directors
The Telecom Infra Project (TIP) is pleased to announce that Dell Technologies has joined the organization’s Board of Directors. Ihab Tarazi, chief technology officer and senior vice president of Networking and Solutions will be the company’s representative on the Board with immediate effect.
Yago Tenorio, Chairman and President of TIP and Vodafone Group’s Head of Network Strategy and Architecture, commented on the new appointment: “I want to welcome Ihab Tarazi of Dell Technologies to TIP’s Board of Directors. Dell has been an active member of TIP since it joined the organization in 2019, particularly within our Open Optical & Packet Transport Project Group, and Ihab will bring a wealth of experience to the Board.”

In addition to Dell joining the Board of Directors, Telefónica has made Juan Carlos García, SVP Technology and Ecosystem global CTIO unit, their primary representative on TIP’s Board.

He has been an invaluable member and has played a vital role in the organization’s development,” added Yago Tenorio. “We look forward to working together with Juan Carlos as we build on the momentum we achieved last year.”

With Ihab Tarazi and Juan Carlos García’s appointments, the Board of Directors includes Yago Tenorio from Vodafone Group, Chairman and President of TIP; Aaron Bernstein from Facebook (Director, Connectivity Ecosystem Programs, Facebook); Caroline Chan from Intel (VP and GM, 5G Infrastructure Division, Network Platform Group, Intel); Abdurazak Mudesir from Deutsche Telekom (SVP Technology Architecture & Innovation, DT); and, Howard Watson from BT (CEO, Technology, Service and Operations, BT).

Ihab Tarazi is the Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President at Dell Technologies Networking and Solutions where he is responsible for technology strategy and roadmap, next generation products and platforms and Technology Ecosystems including 5G and Edge. Prior to that role, Mr. Tarazi served as Chief Technology Officer at Packet Host, Inc., a leading bare metal cloud company built for developers, where he was responsible for the company’s technical and product strategy, engineering, and platform operations. Prior to joining Packet, Mr. Tarazi held a number of positions in the telecom and infrastructure space, including Chief Technology Officer at data center and colocation provider Equinix, where he was accountable for technology innovation and strategic engagements with leading platforms in the Cloud, Security, Storage, Edge and IoT sectors. Previously Mr. Tarazi served as VP Engineering and Technology at Verizon, where he led a global team of providing strategic and tactical oversight for the Engineering and Product Development of Global Enterprise Services including FiOS, MPLS VPN, IP, Ethernet, Security and Managed Services. He has served as a member of our board of directors for NeoPhotonics Corp. since October 2015. Mr. Tarazi served as the co-chair of the TIP Open Optical & Packet Transport Project Group in 2016.
Juan Carlos García
SVP Technology and Ecosystem at Telefónica
Juan Carlos has 30 years of experience in the Telco & IT sector, playing different roles in several Telefónica Group companies: Telefónica I+D (R&D), Telefónica Latam, Telefónica Data Europe, Telefónica Germany and Telefónica S.A, in a range of technology, operations and business development areas. His current role is SVP Technology Innovation and Ecosystem, in charge of Network and IT Technology Innovation Plans and the participation of Telefónica in standard organizations, open-source communities and industry associations. He is currently leading projects around edge computing, network slicing, private networks and 5G services.
Juan Carlos is currently member of GSMA’s Technology Group and chairman of GSMA’s Telco Edge Cloud taskforce. He has been recently appointed as chairman of 5TONIC’s Steering Board and acted in the past as Telefonica’s representative at NGMN and O-RAN Alliance.
He worked as well as an associate professor at the Carlos III University in Madrid (1990-97).
