Telecom Infra Project welcomes Rakuten Mobile
Rakuten Mobile to collaborate with OpenRAN project group members in accelerating innovation and developing cost-effective 4G and 5G network solutions for the TIP community.
Today, at TIP Summit 2019, Telecom Infra Project (TIP) announced that Rakuten Mobile, Japan’s newest mobile operator has joined the TIP community and will contribute their 4G and 5G expertise and reference designs for disaggregated solutions to the TIP ecosystem.
Initially, Rakuten Mobile, the world’s first end-to-end fully virtualized, cloud-native mobile network, will participate in the OpenRAN and OpenRAN 5G NR project groups to drive innovation for the TIP community. These initiatives are designed to support the rapid development and deployment of far more efficient and cost-effective 4G and 5G mobile network infrastructure.
“We are pleased to welcome Rakuten Mobile to the TIP community, which is significantly expanding the scope and value of disaggregation to the industry,” said Attilio Zani, Executive Director, Telecom Infra Project. “We look forward to collaborating on 4G and 5G market-ready solutions with Rakuten to make telecom networks far more open and efficient.”
“We are very excited to join the vibrant TIP community and look forward to engaging with industry leaders and sharing innovative end-to-end virtualization solutions built on our vision of an open and multivendor mobile network ecosystem,” said Tareq Amin, Chief Technology Officer of Rakuten Mobile.
Rakuten Mobile, Japan’s newest mobile operator, launched services in October 2019 with an innovative architecture that is set to disrupt not only the telecom industry landscape in Japan but also the rest of the world. Built to serve millions of subscribers and adopting 5G systems architecture from launch, this will be world’s first cloud-native network that is fully virtualized from radio access network (RAN) to Core, with end-to-end automation for both network and service.
Telecom Infra Project (TIP) is a collaborative telecom community. Launched in February 2016, TIP was started with the goal of accelerating the pace of innovation in the telecom industry. For more information: https://telecominfraproject.com
