A TIP Update from MWC Americas
We’re excited to be here at Mobile World Congress Americas in San Francisco this week, and we wanted to take a few moments to update you on the latest regarding the Telecom Infra Project (TIP). With over 450 members worldwide, our strong community continues to grow and thrive. We’re seeing momentum across our project groups and are announcing several new contributions that will help us execute our mission of finding new approaches to building and deploying telecom network infrastructure.
Millimeter Wave networks project group
We’re launching the Millimeter Wave (mmWave) Networks Project Group to accelerate the deployment of mmWave networks and collaborate on innovative network planning methodologies and tools, software routing protocols and simulation platforms. The mmWave Group will use data and lessons learned from Facebook’s Terragraph solution, a proof-of-concept system that solved the limitations that initially limited the 60GHz spectrum to indoor use.
Specifically, the project group will focus on use cases, including deploying mmWave technology to deliver fiber-like gigabit data rates to homes, businesses and apartment buildings; providing mobile backhaul; and establishing dense connectivity for smart city applications.
Ultimately, this project group will share lessons learned and best practices with the TIP community, including design/test plan documents, proof-of concepts, presentations, and white papers. The group will be co-chaired by Deutsche Telekom and Facebook.
Deutsche Telekom TIP Ecosystem Acceleration Center
We’re excited to announce the expansion of the TIP Ecosystem Acceleration Center (TEAC) program with the launch of our newest center in Berlin, thanks to the support of TIP founding member Deutsche Telekom. These centers attract the brightest entrepreneurial startups and visionary investors to collaborate with the wider TIP community. The addition of Berlin brings the current number of centers to four. We announced the opening of our first center in Seoul, which is hosted by SKT, at the TIP Summit last November. We soon followed this with centers supported by BT in London and Orange in Paris.
TIP Community Lab program
We’re announcing an expansion of the TIP Community Lab program, which provides a collaborative working environment for project groups to test new solutions designed to address specific use cases. DT has just launched its TIP Community Lab in its headquarters in Bonn. SK Telecom is also supporting the program and have already committed to opening a center in South Korea.
People and Process
Our People and Process group is pleased to contribute four white papers covering a number of transformational topics. They include: DevOps Culture, Getting Started with DevOps, Implementing DevOps and the P&P Maturity Model. You can access the papers by signing up for your TIP Workplace account and joining P&P.
Our community is making great progress as we work to re-imagine telecom network infrastructure. For those interested in joining TIP, please visit here
