Today at the GSMA Mobile World Congress event in Shanghai, Dr. Alex Choi, CTO of SK Telecom and TIP Chairman, shared a few updates for the TIP community focused on project groups, a new lab, and plans for an annual TIP Summit.
Starting today, enrollment for the initial TIP Project Groups is now open until Friday, July 15. The project groups were created to support three strategic network areas: Access, Backhaul and Core & Management. Specifications and designs are contributed to the TIP community through the TIP project groups. Members interested in joining and participating in a project group can apply here and learn more about each group’s technical scope, project chairs and licensing policy here.
We’re also building the first TIP Community Lab at Facebook’s headquarters in Menlo Park. The TIP Community Lab will provide a collaborative working environment for project groups to test new end-to-end solutions that are designed to address specific service provider use cases, and incorporate data-driven learnings. Projects that successfully graduate from the Lab will move into commercial deployments. The Lab will open later this summer and we’ll share more details on how to get involved soon.
Lastly, we plan on hosting an annual TIP Summit – an event for TIP members to come together, discuss progress on project groups, share ideas for new collaborations, and hear from the TIP board and industry leaders making meaningful impact as part of TIP. The first Summit will take place in Q4 at Facebook’s headquarters in Menlo Park.
